Abstract

The essay aims to analyze the importance of the theme of travel and travel literature for Ulisse Aldrovandi. The theme will be introduced through a preliminary overview of the travel books collected by the scientist during his lifetime, which are currently preserved in the University Library of Bologna. In particular, the essay presents and analyzes the section dedicated to Ulisse Aldrovandi within the exhibition “The Cultural Heritage of Bologna in the Mirror of European Travelers: Explorations between Early Modernity and the Contemporary Era” (January 22, 2022 – March 18, 2022), hosted at the University Library of Bologna and accessible online. Through the description of the books selected for the exhibition, it will be possible to highlight the study methodology employed by Aldrovandi.
