Abstract
For centuries, wine preservation has stood as a nuanced and critical phase within the overarching winemaking process, demanding meticulous attention to both vinicultural practices and the careful management of wine vessels. This paper draws insights from a missive composed by Ulisse Aldrovandi, revealing valuable information concerning wine vessels, their usage, and a particular cellar technique employing Typha palustris leaves for the waterproofing of wooden barrels. Beyond this, the letter serves as a catalyst for thoughtful contemplation on the history of wine, advocating for a complementary integration of traditional historical-agrarian and historical-commercial research methodologies with a more focused approach on its scientific, material, and organic dimensions.
