Abstract

The paper presents the contents of the exhibition “Science & Beauty: Orchids in the Books of Ulisse Aldrovandi”, held at the University Library of Bologna from 20 January to 23 March 2024. The development of the itinerary of the exhibition has involved scholars from various disciplines, which has made it possible to weave a common thread between the various materials and, at the same time, to illustrate the correlation between the conception of science and study in the 16th century and that of today. The article includes a section dedicated to Aldrovandi’s manuscripts and printed books to study their nature and content, and an analysis of the orchids, chosen as exemplary protagonists of the exhibition, from a naturalistic perspective.
