Censimento preliminare della corrispondenza di Ulisse Aldrovandi

Abstract

The vast and largely unpublished correspondence of the Bolognese naturalist Ulisse Aldrovandi (1522–1605) represents one of the most significant examples of cross-cultural mediation between different contexts. The present contribution offers the first census of Aldrovandi’s correspondence arranged in chronological order. The corpus consists of more than two thousand letters, written in large part in Italian and Latin, and the correspondence covers the whole range of Aldrovandi’s intellectual and institutional activities. Most of these letters are preserved in the Biblioteca Universitaria di Bologna. An alphabetical list of Aldrovandi’s correspondents is provided at the end of the contribution.
